Seasoned veterans of Cuba travel say that something has to go wrong your first trip, as sort of an initiation, a purging, a letting go of preconceived notions i suppose. I can only hope that we have gotten some credit towards that obligation for everything that has gone awry already in preparations! and that Yemaya will welcome us to her watery shores without too many more trials. More on that later, but suffice it to say, we ended up with (and are paying for) 2 casas ~ places to stay, even though we can only use one. i am anticipating a steep learning curve...
Cuba invokes curiosity, passion, interest and energy among all i encounter. It seems like total strangers stop me on the street, saying "I hear you are going to Cuba". Word has gotten out. The (very cohesive, tight knit, passionate and also very large & encompassing) salsa community is activated, and everyone has useful tips, contacts, loved ones to visit, ideas to offer. and of course, things to deliver. It is fantastic to feel that my little trip is part of a larger collective effort. Thank you everyone for your support and experience.
and I WILL MISS my homeland. It doesn't get much better than the Bay Area, which is jam packed with culture, diversity, entertainment, friendship & family and i am going to miss it sorely.
In planning this trip, I have gotten to know the strength and beauty of the 2 stellar women i am delighted and excited to be traveling with, Lucia and Cecilia. more later.
Just initiating this blog with this ~ it's a rush job. But i guess we're LIVE.
